101 Marina, the house of God

11/11/20

So, where are we?  I am asking myself that question.  We headed N/E yesterday with the intent on staying at a camp site new Mountain Home, AR.   Along the way we notice that Bessy was sick and in need of medical attention.  Her front driving lite was falling off and in need of some duct tape to hold her in place.  We did the surgery and got on our way, Sandy ordered the replacement parts for arrival in Allentown when we get there.

Bessy Repair, Ouch...

After a relatively short 3-hour drive we found the only restaurant place that served food in the area with the idea we would pull into the camp site a few miles away.  We had pizza and wings.  We asked about having a beer and the lady at the counter said just watch for the owner and beverage control.  We took this as a hint and sat outside and had a beer in coffee cups from the counter.

After a quick lunch we drove the few miles and it ended up that our camp site was closed.  We searched and all the sites in the area, all were closed – what to do?  Sandy and I parked in this church parking lot and started searching.  As you can see the church caters to bikers and there must be a spot in collection plate for helpless campers.

The House of God...

We started calling and the only one to pick up was the owner to 101 Marina in Gamaliel AR.  He was gone for the day but invited us to go ahead and find a site.  We could figure out the details on the morning.   We finally found a home around 4PM and set up camp.   Since yesterday, us and owner have been the only people around.  I am writing this update from the marina dock and now we are the only people on the property.  We said, goodbye to the owner just a while ago.  On the way out he said would could site on the roof of his house boat to get the sun for just a while longer.

Today was a low-key day.  We woke up to our first cold morning, 36F according to the Weather Channel.  I must say it was cold last night and thank goodness we threw the sleeping bag in the car at the last minute before we left.  The morning coffee was made it the tent and we had pancakes after the sun got up enough to warm up the site.  Later in the day we went for a walk and sat on the banks of the Norfolk Lake.  We talked for a few hours about our trip, where we are going and what lays ahead.  It was a good time to reflect.

We will spend a few more days in the area and head on.   The sun is going down and getting cold again.  Time to get to the tent and honker down.
