Siloam Spirngs AR
11/9/20
Wow… were has the time gone. We have been on the road for 9 days. I am writing from Siloam Springs AR a small
town on the boarder of Arkansas and Oklahoma.
To be totally correct we are in West Siloam Springs which is in Oklahoma. Yesterday we drove the 6.5 hrs from Amarillo
and arrived mid-afternoon. We set up
camp and headed to old-town Siloam. We
stopped in the local bike shop to ask about the local ride seen. Thanks to Will at the shop he gave me a good
path for todays morning ride. The town
is in the middle of the bible belt. According
to Will, who is now our local expert there are 50 churches
for the 3500 residence of Siloam. With
this nothing is open on Sunday. He gave
us a few choices for restaurants, and all were closed. We ended up at the local Rib Crib which looks
to be a local chain restaurant. Sandy
and I shared the combo platter that had just the right amount of pork, beef and
chicken, all smoked and good.
Funny thing is the TV was on with
the football game. Sandy reminded me that
this was the first TV we watched in over a week. I guess I did not miss it.
Early today I headed on a 30-mile
quick ride which took me North of town about 15 mile out and back. The roads had almost no traffic and the ride had
rolling hills. Just right for legs that
are starting to get out of shape. While I
was riding Sandy went on a walk to the water fall that gave our campground its name,
Natural Fall State Park.
In the afternoon we went for a quick walk on some local trails, more interested in getting to the local tap room for a beer. The walk was on a local mountain bike trail. We walked 3 miles (I think) but did not go very far. At the end of the walk Sandy's Stava said we walked 2.5 miles and mine was 3.0. Funny thing is her phone was in my back pack the entire walk. Strave... need some help with this one.
After the walk we headed to the bar. As you might expect, the Creekside Tap Room did not open until 4. The owners met us at the door explaining that they were closed. It did not take him very long to figure our we were from out of town and in need of a beer. He invited us in and apologized for having to serve us in red solo cups. We talked for an hour and had a great time. If you ever get to Siloam Springs, you need to stop in the Creekside. They only serve Arkansas brewed beer.
I wish I got the name of the owners. When I asked if he ever had a Pliney his eyes opened big, he said it was the best beer he has ever had but it was years ago. I told the story of the local spot where I would get Pliney but with Russian River opening a new brewery it is now easy to find. In exchange for the conversation he gave us a can of BDCS 2018. Apparently, this is just as hard to find in Arkansas as Pliney once was in CA. It a local stout and we have it on ice. The beer is dated and gets better with age. Maybe tomorrow we will give it a try.
Chris... need your help with this if your reading.
Tell me more about how hard this is to find and can beer really get better with age?
Mom and Dad… see you in a few days.
Sounds like you had a nice day with a stranger. That’s what I enjoy, chatting with a stranger and showing your kindness and swapping stories. Your car looks clean. Did you waste it. We have a car wash a block away if you need it. See you soon.
