We are finally starting to have fun…

Before I get into the fun, I want to recap yesterday.  As the saying goes, “don’t go to Bakersfield”.  We got a good night sleep, nothing bad happened and we were able to get out of town early.

Sandy and I made the short drive to Lone Pine CA (2.5 hours) and she dropped me off for a short 13 mile climb up Onion Valley Rd.  For all my bike riding friends Google it!   Onion Valley is considered the toughest climb in CA and top 10 in the US.   All the riding in the Santa Cruz Mt prepared me well; 12.8 miles, 5100 ft of climb in 2hr 40min.   Sandy surprise me and drove up the climb.   It was like my own TDF experience, we talked through the car window for a few minutes – no sticky bottle.  She dropped off a couple of Gatorades for me in a beer (Courtney this is for you) box at the top – great treat after a tough climb.  Temperature at the bottom was 75F and 50F at the top (elevation 9,200 ft)   I stayed just long enough to drink a Gatorade and take a few pics.

Switch backs going up Onion Valley.  Not much at the top but the Sierra Peaks are spectacular.

Sandy spent the afternoon driving Alabama Hill outside of Lone Pine and figuring out the car packing situation.  We left SJ with a bit too much stuff in Bessy.  She did a great job organizing the car.  Getting the bike loaded was much easier after my ride.  I am sure it will take a few more days to figure out what we really need.  The rest will find its way to FL via UPS.

Alabama Hills

It is a great life.   We will decide tomorrow morning if we spend another day in Lone Pine or head off to Death Valley.  Cool stuff in both places.

Oh yeh... Go Eagles!!!!!   Half time and does not look good.

  1. It wasn’t pretty but they won. Stayed until the goofy kick near the end. Have a fun day. Have some fun for us. Today is cleaning day then the fitness center for short workout. Stay in a safe play, the election is near and it may get funny.
