Day 10: We are in Globe AZ

The highlight of the day is to give all of you an update on Bradly and Shannon on their race.   They are 36 hours into their adventure race across Florida and doing great.  It is tough to tell from the GPS tracker but it looks like they are running in the top 10 overall and 2nd in the co-ed double's group.  A lot can change but my sense is they are achieving their goal.

Thanks Nora

For our ride, we hit double digits on days riding’ #10 and over 500 miles.  We slept last night in open land outside of Tonto Basin.  When we woke up this morning it was in the high 30’s and cold, looking forward the forecast for the next few days, the morning temperatures will be in the 20’s.   Sandy and I are good in the upper 30s’, but 20 is too cold for our gear.  Since we got on the road our plan has been to stay between small towns and camp in public land (BLM).  We adjusted today and did a short ride to Globe AZ to stay in a hotel.  Tomorrow morning the temperature is expected in the upper 20’s, looking ahead, we will likely be in a hotel for the next 3 or 4 nights – it will be cold the morning.

Departure for Day 10

Waking up on Day 10
Camp was nice

Todays ride was harder than I expected.  While only 45 miles there was a bit of climbing and my legs were tired from yesterday.  The scenery was fantastic all day, mountains, desert and lake view the entire time.

The town of Globe is a hopping town with several historic bars and good restaurants.  If I was driving through, this would be a good night or two stay.  Sandy and I hit the two old time bars in town then went for a pizza dinner.  We are back in the hotel for a good nights sleep.

Hanging out and having fun...

Todays ride was short but cold and hilly.  45 miles felt a lot further than normal.  I had my wind breaker on most of the day and when I hit Globe, I was happy the day was almost over.

Food intake today was ok.  Sandy passed me at about 25 miles, and I had a muffin and water.  Before this I ate a Cliff bar and had another about an hour after meeting Sandy.  Drinking I had one water bottle and some ice water when Sandy and I met up.

Tomorrow is another hotel day.  Morning temperatures will be in the 20F’s.  The plan is to get to Safford AZ about 70+ mile away.  I am expecting a generally cold day but let’s hope for the best.
