Day 11: Globe AZ to Safford AZ

Want to give a quick update on Bradley and Shannon.   There is about 20 hours remaining in their 72- hour race and they are doing great.   As best we can tell they are 10th overall in the Coed division and 1st in the Coed 2 (2 people) division.  We are watching them move via GPS tracker.  Hope I am reading this correctly and they have a strong last 20 hours.

Thanks Nora...

For todays ride…  well we made a good call on the hotel last night and tonight.  We woke up in Globe with 34F temperature. Tomorrow morning in Safford the forecast in for low 30F’s.

Day 11 Send Off...

With a hotel stay last night it was easy to get up an get out early.  The ride started around 8:30AM after a hotel grab and go breakfast.  With no bacon and eggs, I got hungry early in the ride and stopped at a store for only the 2nd time since San Diego.  I was inspired by a picture Bradley sent on his food plans for his race and bought Cheez-Its.  I don’t know when I last had them, but they are good.

I can tell I am getting tired.  There was nothing especially hard about the profile today and the light winds were mostly helping.  Even with this, it was a hard day.  I try not to look to much at the overall ride, but I am close to 660 miles in 10 days.  I guess this is why.  Along the ride today it was one nice view after another.  I stopped for pictures quite a bit in the first few hours and finally said enough, I need to keep moving.

I was on this road all day... zero turns.

View from the Bike, many more pics in my phone.

The last 30 miles into Safford were straight and mostly flat.   Riding in the valley it was mostly farmland along the road.  I must say that looking across a field with snow capped mountains as the background looks like something from a movie.

Valley heading into Safford

Arriving at the hotel in Safford

The ride started off very cold and stayed mostly cold all day.  Even when I got into Safford at 70F it still felt cold.  The winds shifted later in the day and started helping across the valley into town.

Tomorrows ride is to Lordsburg NM about 74 miles away.  I am expecting the same up and down ride and farmland view.  The winds are expected to pick up into 20+ mph by early afternoon.  Good news is they should be behind me providing a much-needed assistance.
