Day 5: Ride to the Donkeys...
The sunrise this morning at Dome Rock was beautiful. After a breakfast of a muffin, banana, and eggs I was off to Aguila, AZ.
Day 5 start... |
Sunrise at Dome Rock |
The ride started with a few miles through Quartsite AZ, the ACA map put me on I-10 for 10 miles to Route 60. Nothing much can be said for this part of the ride, it all can not be spectacular. Once off I-10 it was 50 miles into the wind to reach my destination. The best part of the ride was Sandy bringing me lunch and refreshing my mind. Route 60 will take it out of you. Driving ahead, Sandy went into Aguila to find a town totally shutdown, no camping, no restaurants, nothing… She back tracked a few miles to give me the news. Not really having a plan we drove the Aguila RV park that was close hoping to find someone, nothing not a sole in site. In typical Sandy fashion, she told me to take a rest and she would figure it out. Fifteen minutes later, I get a phone call. We have a place to camp, a Donkey farm. The place is the best, a working farm with plenty of friendly dogs and good internet. Frankly, this is why people ride across America to experience this.
I already was in the saddle, no more for me What a great end to the day... Working farm... This dog wanted to get on
Sandy's lap

As I mentioned, the weather today was cool with high around
60F and plenty of wind out of the North.
Most of the way it was a cross, head wind which made peddling
tough. I was looking forward to road
turning east to get the wind behind me which never happened.

During the ride, I ate one cliff bar, a few blocks, and a

finished about 1.5 bottles, but Sandy pushed a few drinks into me when we met
up.
SAG stop for a sandwich
Thanks Sandy
Tomorrows ride will get us close to Phoenix, on the north
side. The plan from yesterday was to get
a hotel room. The Donkey farm had a
great, warm shower so if we find a camp site, we will camp one more night. The plan for the next day will be to get to
the other side Phoenix for a hotel stay followed by a rest day. Looking at the map the other side of town
has 16K Ft of climbing over 170 miles. Rest
will be needed before we take on this effort.
A donkey farm! What fun!
ReplyDeleteI was looking forward to your next blog entry, and you did not disappoint! Who would have guessed you’d find a donkey farm?? 🤣 Love it!
ReplyDeleteThat sounds pretty cool. I'm happy to see that you are wearing the appropriate safety gear!!!, I wonder what the donkeys think!
ReplyDeleteaccording to my calculations, your trip average is 66.18 miles per day which is ahead of your planned 55 miles per day average.
ReplyDeleteAre you really allowed to ride a bike on any interstate? Hmmm!
ReplyDeleteWas it a donkey or was it mule !????? Either way, you should totally kidnap one and bring it to Florida for me !
ReplyDeleteP.S. DRINK MORE WATER !
