After setting up camp today and enjoying a nice dinner, we meet a father/son team riding west to San Diego. He is riding to raise money for cancer so the cause is near and dear. It was great to hear their stories and pass on what we learned about their road ahead. One of the interesting things is Greg and Bradley met in a bike store in Jacksonville, small world.

Last night we met a young guy (about 24) riding west as well. The one thing that was clear from the conversation is that a tailwind is better than a headwind.
Scenery for the day was much the same as yesterday. For the 60 miles, there was one little ghost town
along the way. The only thing moving in
the town were goats.

You never know what is over the ridge
This is one of the coolest parts of the ride.
The next amazing view or surprise.
Yesterday I said I did not expect much from Langtry. Well the small place (not town) overachieved. There is a museum for the area that was cool
and the buildings in town are neat. Don’t get me wrong, I would not pack up the
wagon and head to Langtry but if your driving Route 90 in Texas it is worth a quick
stop.
Camp tonight is in the local community center.
Langtry has a museum showing its history... this is the original bar in town.

To leave camp early today Sandy and I agreed to skip bacon

for lunch ($1.75 each). Add to this a
Gatorade and lunch was perfect. I also
ate one Cliff Barr and drank about one bottle of water.
Tomorrow target is Del Rios TX about 60 miles from Langtry. My legs are tired and all the efforts to do short days has not helped with recovery. We will spend a day in Del Rios to rest and go see the Rio Grand up close.

I tried posting earlier, sorry if this is a duplicate.
ReplyDeleteHow odd that you met up with a fellow biker, from Chemo Noir, a “wine centric” cancer charity. God speaks to us in many voices! 😊🍷

Thanks guys, you rock.
