Day 23: Langtry TX to Del Rio TX

Today’s thoughts: I hate the wind… and tomorrow is a rest day, for real.

Camp last night was quiet and we slept well until the wind started pushing the car and tent around 4AM.  I had anxiety thinking about todays ride.  Thanks to Sandy for a good pep talk and kick in the back side.  Off I road...

Thanks for sending me on my way!

No Dog at this market.

The population of Langtry is 12 according to the 2016 census.  According to one of the locals the population is now 11.  My Dad told me the store above had a dog that wears a skirt.  Well Sandy went into the store and there was no dog.  I hate to think the dog has left us.

We have been on US90 for 301 miles since we left Van Horn on day 19.  All of this has been into the wind and I hate the wind.  Tomorrow we will rest and then another 32 miles on US90 to Brackettville where I will take a left and start heading NE.

Cannot wait to say goodbye!

The weather report has the same winds and a chance of rain on Saturday when we are back on the road.  The good news about today’s ride is we have completed ACA Map 3 and will move on to Map 4 of 7 on Saturday.  I did a quick look at when we will finish and not change from my projections a few days ago.  I will make a formal statement when we leave Texas in 619 miles.

The ride today was filled with fantastic sites and the only town along the way was Comstock TX.  I am not sure we saw all of Comstock, but we saw most of it.  The best part was lunch at the local gas station/beer store where we sat in the warehouse out of the wind.  I had two hotdogs and Gatorade.  Comstock was about halfway to Del Rio.

This is cool...
The machine lays down new railroad tracks.
On the left is the working part that lays tracks.
On the far right is a car with new tracks, there were 20+ of these cars.

Lunch in Comstock
Out of the Wind

We arrive at the Holiday Inn in Del Rio to a warm shower and a great dinner out.  We went to Manuel’s Steak house for Mexican food.  I had the best Chili Relleno ever.
