Day 31: Sam Houston National Forest (West of New Waverly TX) to Silsbee TX
We left camp this morning without a plan... always a bad idea.
Well I did what I did not want to do… at 55 miles Sandy and I met for lunch and it was clear from the conversation, I was going 100 mile today. Last night we tried to figure out a place to stop and we found nothing and that was the truth. Sandy stopped for groceries in Coldspring TX about 35 miles into the ride and from there we saw nothing until Kountze TX at mile 95. We ended up in a camp site outside of Silsbee TX, 102 miles for camp this morning.
Along the way I caught up to the disciples, Paul and John. They left camp this morning at about 7AM a
full two hours ahead of me. They stopped
in Coldspring and we met up in town. We
road together until lunch when I stopped, and they headed on. I keep thinking I won’t see them again but
who knows. I think with the 100 miles
today I am ahead of them.
There was nothing special about today’s ride, dull
miles. There were no small towns or interesting
buildings, just miles of farmland and cows.
There was one water tower picture to add to the collection. The pictures
for today are minimal…

For the ride, winds were very friendly all day helping me along. There was one stretch of road from Thicket TX to Kountze TX of 12 miles that was perfectly straight.

Thank god the wind was helping; this would
have killed me to plow into headwind.

Congratulations on that century ride! And you were moving pretty good too!
ReplyDeleteGlad to see you made it to a camp spot! We saw you flying past at Honey Island, and figured you were doing the full 100.
