Day 32: Silsbee TX to DeRidder LA
Many things happened today…
1) We passed into Louisiana today, leaving Texas
after 16 days. We arrived on Day 16 and
left on Day 32. There was a rest day in
there but not too bad.
The was NO LA sign at the border. |
In on D16 out on D32, good-by Texas |
There is another version of this picture for those who ask. |
3) I have been riding my bike for over 6 days. Totaling 6 days, 4 hours, and 45 minutes.
4)We are committing to arrive in NSB on
10-April. This will be Day 53 days. Depending on rest days we need to average between
57 miles and 67 miles per day. I am not
to concerned on the miles just depends on the weather from this point.
Todays ride was as expected, a slight head wind and not to
much climbing. Knowing it would be a
shortish, not so hard day I took my time with coffee and breakfast before leaving.

Leaving for Day 32 |
We did run into the Disciples early afternoon in Merryville LA. Paul had a wheel problem that slowed them down. We are expecting them again in camp tonight – always good conversation and Sandy cooks up a great meal for all of us.

The most interesting part of the today’s ride was stopping in on the local high school rodeo contest – yes, I said high school. I guess in this part of the country there are enough cowboys & cowgirls to field a team. I watch for just a few minutes but is was interesting to see how good high school kids are at driving a horse.
One more water tower for the collection...
The ride today was basically cold all day. The high temperature was maybe 60F but the wind made it feel colder.
Today’s ride stats…

For food today, I was hungry at lunch and had two
sandwiches. Prior to that I had a Cliff
Bar during the ride and Sandy met me on a corner handing me a muffin & banana. I also had a Gatorade at lunch and about one
water bottle on the ride.
For tomorrow, we will try to hit a camp site about 80 miles from here. After tomorrow, there is rain in the forecast so we might slow down and get a hotel. A rest day is also needed, it has been since Day 24 since we last took a break.

Laundry In the Tent |
Sounds like you had a nice day and evening with your 2 desciple friends. We arrive in. NSB on Thursday, the 8th, late morning awaiting your splash in the Atlantic on the 10th. Can’t wait. FYI. We had 3 wild turkeys at the feeder behind the house yesterday. We also have a couple of foxes. Pop
ReplyDeleteWe have high school rodeo teams in CA, Steve! The young cowboys and cowgirls are as close as Livermore... maybe even Gilroy. Rach and I used to watch the competitions when we were both actively riding.
