Day 44: Mary Esther FL to Ebro FL

No Ebro is not an April fool’s jock…  Day 44 is in the books and we are meandering through the pan handle of Florida and we are camping outside of Ebro FL.  I am sure my best friends in Florida have never heard of this town.  With spring break and Easter weekend camp sites are tough to find.  Sandy found the last one in Pine Log State Park.  There is good and bad on this…  We set up in site 2 next to the lake and were having a beer with the camp attendant.  A guy pulled up and was quite angry that we were is site 2.  Ends up that our reservation was for site 20 and we made a mistake…  after a bit of juggling, we moved and are setup for the night.  I was really not a big deal for us, but the other guy was not to happy during the process.

Leaving Denny & Belinda's House

Our 2nd camp for the night

Today’s ride started in howling winds straight from the North.  For the early part of the ride around Destin FL it was very slow and tough.  Once I started heading due East everything got easier and faster.  The once I was out of the Destin area the scenery turned nice and I road along the Gulf of Mexico was amazing.   Hard to believe I was riding along the northern tip of the gulf, so cool.

Remnants of a Hurricane Past...

We spent last night at Denny & Belinda’s, so Sandy had an easier morning getting ready.  I also got up early and had a few comfortable cups of coffee.  By the time I left for my ride both were off to work and I waved good-by to Sandy.  Sandy did catch up for lunch and we had Fried Chicken at Sweet Southern Comfort in Freeport FL.  First time I had Fried Chicken in many years, it was good.

Todays lunch spot...

One last mention of the Disciples... I final got the picture of their finish (at least Paul) on the beach.  This will be me in a few short days, cannot wait.

Paul on St. Augustine Beach after 3,000 miles

Today’s ride stats:

Start Time: 8:41 AM Central Time            Finish Time: 2:00 PM Central Time

Elapse Time: 5 Hr. 19 Min.                         Ride Time: 4 Hr. 22 Min.

Distance: 64.2 Miles                                    Average Speed: 14.6 mph

Climbing/Descent: 1315/1312 Ft.             TSS: 159

Average Power: 178 Watts                        Normalized Power: 190 Watts

Calories: 2806                                               Ave/Max HR: 120/141 bpm

Aside from the Fried Chicken I had mashed potato, green beans, corn bread, a bread roll and a diet coke.  Good thing it was diet.   At my usual 1.5-hour mark, I had a Cliff Bar and I finished about half a water bottle – not very good.

For tomorrow, we will inch closer to home.  With the holiday weekend and Easter, we had a hard time finding a camp site.  Ends up we will be in Torreya State Park in a Zurt, there were no camp sites remaining.  The ride will be about 70 miles with the final 10 going north and not helping the cause.  We have an extra day in the plan so no big deal.

My Dad's Town
Not much in Bruce, the town
My Dad had quite a bit going on.

Comments

  1. We know exactly where Ebro is. They have a tiny post office. That restaurant looks cute. The little "Mom and pop" ones have the best food at good prices and usually bigger plates full. We know where Bruce is as well. Continue enjoying the NW part of Florida.

    Love you
