Day 45: Ebro FL to Torreya State Park (Outside of Bristol FL)

The most exciting thing about todays was cross the time zone line, entering the East Coast Time Zine.  Yes, we are officially on the East Coast.

Now it is official, we are on the East Coast

Always happy in the morning..

Other than this, the ride was quite boring.  The road was long, mostly straight, more hills than I expected and into the wind.   If I sound negative, I mostly am.  I love riding so that was the good thing, but these miles are tough.   I will say that both ends of the ride were very nice, Sandy is doing a good job.  We left camp this morning after a great breakfast and I am writing this sitting in front of a campfire, outside of our Yurt.

I was skeptical of the Yurt, but I like this...

Most of the ride was on long straight roads and you can see the devastation of the hurricanes that hit this area over the past few year.  Literally, there were thousands of acres of downed trees being cleared.  The area is a big pine logging area (paper) so most of the devastation was to commercial trees.  There are already signs of replanting.

My view for most of the day.
Devastation from Hurricanes

Down Town Blountstown
The old building is the old courthouse, the new one is next door.

As I mentioned the ride was into the constant NE wind that slowed down everything.  The roads were perfect so a little better wind and this would have been a fun, fast ride.

Today’s ride stats:

Start Time: 9:07 AM Central Time            Finish Time: 3:54 PM East Coast Time ***

Elapse Time: 5 Hr. 41 Min.                         Ride Time: 5 Hr. 11 Min.

Distance: 71.9 Miles                                    Average Speed: 13.9 mph

Climbing/Descent: 1499/1366 Ft.             TSS: 190

Average Power: 183 Watts                        Normalized Power: 190 Watts

Calories: 3419                                              Ave/Max HR: 119/137 bpm

*** Note the time change

Sandy met me at about 50 miles, and you guessed it… I had a Turkey (surprise) sandwich, potato chips, banana, and a Gatorade.  Prior to meeting up with Sandy I finished a Cliff Bar and one bottle of water.

Tomorrow, we are heading almost due South, unfortunately the North wind is moving East and it will be a cross wind.  The winds will be relatively light and the ride only 55 miles so no big deal.  We are inching to home.

Sunset and a Fire, what a great deal.

More road side flowers

  1. After seeing the inside of your Yurt, your mother and I stayed in a Yurt in Kenya on our safari years ago. The biggest problem we had was you have to make sure the entry was secured to keep the monkeys out.
Have a fun day. See you about 7 days and a couple of hours.
