Day 47 (Easter): Tate’s Hell Womack State Park to Newport FL

Happy Easter to all... ironic that we left Tate's Hell on Easter.

Today was all about the after-ride fun…  Yesterday I mentioned we did not have a solid plan for finishing today.  Well, we ended up at the Newport Park Campground, about a ¼ mile from the Ouzts Too Bar.  After settling in, Sandy and I took a walk over, had a few beers and listened to the band.  This place is real Florida.

And I bought the T-Shirt

The camp site is on the Wakulla River which is beautiful.  We spent some time on the camp site overlook, just talking about our ride and a bunch of other stuff.  We both are eager to finish up… 6 more rides to go.  I must add that we are taking our time and enjoying North/West Florida.  I have never been in these parts before, and it is nice.

Hanging out at the river...
No we did not use the rope swing.

The ride today was along the Gulf of Mexico then inland a bit.  Look at the map below to get a feel, US98 is right on the water.  I must say the coast was beautiful.  Once I move inland, I crossed a few rivers, and they were all very nice and active.  Plenty of boaters and people handing out.

Today’s ride was another quick one.  The winds were helping me all day – imagine that, a friendly wind.  I help Sandy pack up camp this morning to ensure a quick exit so she could get ahead and find a camp site. The ride was so fast that I was 15 miles out when she finally found tonight’s home.

Have to check my computer...
Pretty sure I was not below sea level today.

Tomorrow we will try to get to the Steinhatchee area and find camp. It will be another let us see what I find day.  I do not like these but no choice.  Luckily, we have Tuesday’s camp already booked and that is driving the pace.  Tomorrow will be 70+ miles, probably my last long day of the trip, yeh!!!
