Day 48: Newport FL to Steinhatchee FL

Time to start the count down...   5 more days of riding!!!

We know we are in Florida, the mornings are chilly but nice... in the evenings the noseeum's come to get you and eat you up. We are forced inside our tent just before sun set and able to get out just after dark.

The start of Day 48 was cool, but nice.

Today’s ride was much like yesterday but on more populated roads.  The shoulders were good for most of it, and you can tell by the average speed the winds were ok.  It also helped that the roads were pan flat.  My Garmin had 424 ft. of climbing and I am not sure where this came from.   There was really nothing interesting to look at most of ride, pretty boring frankly.

So cool, wish there was more of this to look at.

The highlight of the day was the post ride tour of Steinhatchee – all 20 minutes.  There is not much in town and being a Monday, most of the restaurants were closed.  This has been a general theme for most of the ride, Mondays and Tuesdays are tough to find anything open in small towns.

There is a river going through town and a water tower.
All the signs suggest more going on than we found.

We went to visit the Steinhatchee falls… for real there is a one foot water fall outside of town.  We laughed about it but there was quite a crowd.

Which way to the falls...
They are to the right!

Hope this makes the falls look bigger.

After visiting the falls, we found the only restaurant open in town and had a nice fish dinner.

Very good fried shrimp.

The download from my computer did not work today, the stats below are what I got from pictures of the screen at the end of the ride.  Hopefully, the ride will download tomorrow…

Today's ride stats:

Start Time: 9:05 AM East Coast Time       Finish Time: 2:10 PM East Coast Time

Elapse Time: 5 Hr. 5 Min.                           Ride Time: 4 Hr. 32 Min.

Distance: 77.7 Miles                                    Average Speed: 17.1 mph

Climbing/Descent: 424/? Ft.                        TSS: ?

Average Power: 176 Watts                            Normalized Power: ? Watts

Calories: 2877                                               Ave/Max HR: bpm

Today was back to normal with a longer ride, Sandy caught up to me at about 50 miles and I had a ham sandwich, banana, and a Gatorade.  Prior to her arriving I had Cliff Bar and finish most of a bottle of drink.

With no Strava, I used Google to give you an idea where we are at.  The route is almost correct.   Like I said above, the ride was pan flat so the elevation profile will not say much.

Tomorrow will be a simple-ish 45-mile effort to Manatee Springs State Park near Chiefland, FL.  Let’s hope the winds cooperate.  The weather forecast looks good for the rest of the week, so hopefully we can finish this up with no rain – please.
