Good by Tennessee, Hello Kentucky

Time fly’s by… it has been 3 days since I last posted something. Let’s recap for you. We had our 1st camp fire. Sandy and I spent the last 6 nights camping. We were lucky and showered on day 2 but have been without since. That means 5 days without a shower. We spent 3 nights at the 101 Marina, what stood out is each night was colder than the one before, but the days would warm up to be nice. We spent more time inside the car/tent than normal.
After 101 Marina we headed east about 5 hours to Fort Pillow State Park in Tennessee. On the way I we crossed the Mississippi River, what a treat. There were several very large barges just under the bridge, the river was huge.
The Tennessee state line must be in the middle of the Mississippi.
We arrived at Fort Pillow on Friday night, so the place was packed with weekend campers. It reminded me a lot of nights at Mount Madonna.
Our plan was to spend 2 nights and get our early on Sunday for a long day of driving. It ended up we let the Weather Channel be our guide on this one. The forecast was 80% chance of rain and we decide to leave early for a hotel – there goes the streak of nights camping and days without a shower.
While at Fort Pillow I did have a
chance to get in 55 miles (thanks Sandy) and we went for a quick walk. We did have a near medical emergency today. After my ride Sandy had lunch ready for us –
hot dogs. While chatting and planning the
rest of our day, Sandy took a bit and was stung by a bee on her tongue. The sting was panful, and her tongue got
quite big. Google did not have much
advise for what to do. After ice and time,
it started to feel better, but her tongue is still swollen. This will certainly make the "what do you
remember most about your trip" talks.
I am writing from the Quality Inn in Benton Kentucky. The plan is to get up early and start driving toward Allentown PA. Since we got 2 hours of the drive behind us today, we (I) hope to stop and catch part of the Eagles game tomorrow along the way. Plan is to drive a long day tomorrow and arrive in Allentown on Monday. This will mark the end of the first leg of our journey. We are far from finished on our adventure.
One more thing. We drove through cotton country. It was neat to see the machines and bails of cotton along the road. For hundreds of miles there are pieces of cotton along the road. We stopped to see what it felt like. It was nice and soft just off the plant.
Hi guys, just read this, you’re probably in Allentown by now, hope Sandy has fully recovered from the bee sting, cannot imagine a worse place 🤯
