Day 26 Campwood TX to Ingram TX

So long Campwood....

Day 26, Hoping for a good day

There are a few great things that happened today.  I made it through another long day of ride and maybe more exciting the wind is supposed to stop tonight.  You would think that finishing a long day through the Texas Hills would be the true highlight but let me tell you.  Sandy and I are both excited about waking up to no wind.   The ride today was nice, there were four nice climbs surrounded by beautiful views.  Along the way I met up with two young guys, Paul and John who were doing the same southern route.  There was good conversation for a few miles and later in the evening, they caught up to us in camp.  I was great to have the company and talk stories of our travels.  These guys are crazy, they must be in St. Augustine by 5-April and they left San Diego a few days after us.  Young legs and crazy minds can do these things.  They were both very nice young men.

These guys are tough

Today’s ride is mostly documented by pictures… it was up and down all day with the wind sort of helping in the early ride and behind me late.  In the middle I could not tell. There were four climbs that would make my California friends proud.  Lots of 10 percent stuff and a few miles each.  Fun riding for me, this is what I like to ride.

The last 25+ miles followed the Guadalupe River.   Our camp site was also on the river.

River bath and a great view

For food today, I have my normal early Cliff Barr and waited for Sandy to arrive for lunch.  Well, Sandy got lost and we had a good time figuring out where she was at relative to me.  For the first time in our trip, she arrived coming at me about 4 hours into the ride.  I was hungry and woofed down two ham sandwiches, banana, and a cinnamon bun from the hotel we stay at in Del Rio.  I finished my two water bottles twice today.

The down time during the ride was mostly figuring out where Sandy was, eating lunch and working on a late ride flat tire.

Tomorrow we are heading to Johnson City which is about 50 miles outside of Austin.  The ride has some climbing but nothing like today.

  1. Looks like the water was cold. You almost did a mile of climbing. Have another fun day. Don’t lose Sandy today. Point her East and let her go. L o l
