Day 29: Bastrop TX to Gay Hill TX (Lake Sommerville, Yegua Creek Park)
As expected, last night we had a rain, so the hotel call was a good one. We had time last night to get some personal business taken care of and a good shower. The sleeping was not as good a Bessy, I am looking forward to tonight.

Tomorrow we turn 30, yeh!!!!! |
Camp tonight is on a lake and the wind in blowing 15+. Sandy did a fantastic job positioning the car/tent so we should be OK. She also put the tent up by herself in the wind – super woman she is.

Sandy set up in the wind... look at the lake to get an idea how windy it really is!!! |
The ride today was very cool early going through two state
parks for the first 20+ miles. The last
60 miles was ranch land and small towns.
The guy below was the epitomy of long distance riding. He left on this ride last Thanksgiving and has no plan. When I asked where he was heading, he was not very sure but had a few ideas of things he wanted to see and no idea when we would be done. He was getting in touch with nature.

Meet Justin... free spirit roaming the country. Cool guy to talk with for a few minutes. |
Sandy caught up to me early today (no tent to take down) so we had lunch together at about 3 Hrs into the ride. We had lunch in LaGrange TX which looks like a very cool town. There were lots of shops downtown and many old buildings.

Lunch Break |
After lunch was another 40 miles of ranches and farmland. The most interesting thing along the way was
the small towns of Warrenton TX and Round Top TX were setting up for their
annual antique and craft week. There were
thousands of vendors setting up along ~10 miles of road. The
fair is next week and the locals say the road will be backed up for 20
miles. I am happy we were peddling through
this week and I feel sorry for the riders next week.

For food today, I had a Cliff Bar during the ride. At our lunch break, Sandy and I shared a veal
parm sandwich. At lunch I polished off a
few glasses of lemonade and during the ride I had four bottles.
Tomorrow is going to be a relatively short day, only 65 miles. There is public land by a lake along the way and we hope to camp for free. The winds will continue for a few days but should be generally friendly for riding.
Question...do you think you lost any weight during this trip? Sounds like you don't eat much.
