Day 33: DeRidder LA to Chicot State Park (Outside of Villa Platte LA)
I woke up this morning after staying up later than usual
last night hoping for a short day, maybe 50 miles. Well there was nothing between our camp site
last night and the camp site tonight. We
passed through a town early in the ride that was very quiet, Sunday and all and
a town late that had a very unusual, not good vibe. Total distance another 81 miles. The ride was not that hard even with a mild
head wind most of the day.
As I mentioned, there was not much on today’s ride. Felt a lot like just putting miles behind us,
hence the lack of picture. I did not know that Louisiana farmers grew rice. I also found out that they raise crawfish in
the rice fields, cool combination.
The colored things are fish traps...
I want one of these...
Late in the ride, I caught up to the Disciples one more time. Paul was heading off on his own to Lafayette LA to find a bike shop to fix his tire. John and I finished the last 15 miles to camp and he joined us for dinner. I am sure he will be out early tomorrow, the plan is for he and Paul to rejoin in New Roads LA late tomorrow. Let hope the plan works for them.
The camp site for tonight is one of the best since we started the journey. We also have our first camp fire of the trip.Another Water Tower

Sandy caught up to me today around 45 miles and we had the
usual lunch, ham sandwich, muffin, banana, and a Gatorade. Prior to lunch I had a Cliff Bar and very
little water. After lunch, I finish both
water bottles and came to camp with no water.

Lunch on the Road |
Tomorrow is going to be one of those days. If Sandy can find a hotel about 50 miles out, we will take a short day. More likely we will end up in New Road LA and take a rest day. Yes… a rest day.
Ok, so it looks like we are not going with “slow and steady wins the race”, must be all those burritos you’ve been eating!!! Looks to me that even with a rest day and possible weather day you could make NSB by like the 6th! No more hills, should be a wind at your back and once you turn the corner past the panhandle it’s all downhill. You got this beat old man!
ReplyDeleteI do see a weather front setting up behind you, not sure if it will keep rolling East like the one did last week, be careful, dangerous winds in those things, like waterspouts only on land! Trying not to use the “T” word.
