Day 8: Rest Day, Sleep Inn in Mesa AZ

Our 1st rest day has started and it is a good time to reflect and try to remember what happened over the past few days.  Todays blog is coming to you from the comfort of a nice bed.

Right: Blogging from a hotel bed

I mentioned a few days ago that we will finish ACA (Adventure Cycling Association) Map One in Phoenix.  The complete Map 1 is below (total of 7 maps).  Each night Sandy and I would pick a target location to finish the days ride and make camp.  As you might imagine, this one of the most important parts or our day.

On to the refection part...   some of the selections below were easy.  No doubt the Santa Ana winds were the scariest part of the journey.  The rest are more subjective and fun to discuss.

Favorite Ride Day: (Steve) Day 1 leaving San Diego and climbing to Mar-tar-Awa

Favorite Drive Day: (Sandy) Day 4 Glamis to Dome Rock

Hardest Ride: (Steve) Day 5 Dome Rock to Aguila

Favorite Camp Site: (Sandy) Day 4 Dome Rock, (Steve) Day 5 The Donkey’s in Aguila

Most scary time: (Sandy & Steve) Day 1 Night camping in the Santa Ana winds

Most Interesting: (Sandy) Day 5 The Donkey Farm (Steve) Day 4 The old guy on his way to Missouri

Most Fun Time: (Sandy) Day 7 Visiting with John & Brenda (Steve) Starting and Finishing the rides

Tomorrow we are back on the road again... more in a few days.

  1. Hey Steve & Sandy - I love the updates and travelogue! I'm pretty sure my attempt at this journey would need a hotel bed (and bar) every night, not every week. You two are tough! -Chris
